Discover the Laakse Slenk

The Laakse Slenk, located in the Hulkestein forest, is a historic watercourse that tells a fascinating story about the evolution of this landscape. Once there was a sea here, but even before the sea arose, the small river the Laak meandered through this low area. Despite the disappearance of the river, the old course of the Laak remained visible in the soil, leading to the discovery of archaeological treasures, such as hearths, flints and even shipwrecks. These finds testify to habitation in this area in both medieval and prehistoric times.

Today you can enjoy a beautiful 4-kilometer hiking trail along the banks of the Laakse Slenk. This route offers an exciting water crossing and includes prehistoric experiential elements, such as a hearth site. In addition, the Laakse Slenk has revived as habitat for dragonflies, such as the white-nosed dragonfly, and waterfowl, including the kingfisher and osprey. You can easily find the Laakse Slenk from the Wielseweg towards Naturist Camping Flevo-Nature, where you can access it through a special entrance gate.

Discover the wonder of nature: National Park New Land

National Park Nieuw Land in Flevoland is a true wonder of nature. This largest man-made nature park in the world is so special that it even formed the backdrop for the movie "De Nieuwe Wildernis," with the voice of none other than André van Duin. A true nature spectacle for all ages, in which the "circle of life" in the Oostvaardersplassen is beautifully highlighted, sometimes touching, sometimes funny and always endearing.

This park includes four breathtaking natural areas:

Oostvaardersplassen

Here you will find an oasis of peace, space and abundant food, resulting in a steady growth of animal diversity. Come face to face with wild cattle, horses and red deer roaming freely through the vast plains of Oostvaardersplassen. Discover the contrast between rugged nature and man-made polders, all close to the city.

Spooner Lakes

For marsh and waterfowl, this is a true paradise, where rare species of birds flock throughout the year. Trenches, ditches and pools provide the perfect hunting grounds for majestic birds such as the great egret, blue heron, Lepelaar and bittern. More than two hundred bird species have been observed here!

Markermeer

The Markermeer is a Valhalla for water sports enthusiasts, with countless possibilities. Both experienced and novice water sports enthusiasts can indulge themselves here. Even in calm weather, smaller ships can effortlessly navigate the Markermeer.

Marker Wadden

In the Markermeer, the Marker Wadden will be constructed in the coming years, using sand, clay and silt from the bottom. This will create new land and shallow water in which plants, birds and fish can thrive. But there is also plenty for people to experience, with a nature harbor, hiking trails, bird-watching huts and even a beach. A perfect place to enjoy, hike and bird watch.

Come and discover these extraordinary natural treasures in New Land National Park!

Horsterwold, strolling through the quiet core!

Fairy tale tall poplars? The largest deciduous forest in the Netherlands? Ferns, mosses and creepers? One does not immediately think of Flevoland when reading these words. Yet Flevoland, our youngest province, is blessed with some beautiful forests. And thanks to the fertile seabed on which the polder was built, many trees are already so tall that they seem centuries old instead of just thirty years old. Horsterwold is a 900-hectare nature reserve where nature is given plenty of space. In addition to many animal species such as cattle, deer, foxes, beavers and up to 140 different species of birds, the area is grazed by a herd of konik horses, which provide a varied vegetation of grassland, shrubs and standing forest. The quiet core is a strolling area where you don't have to stay on the trails and is large enough to fully immerse yourself in nature. The little and big Horsterberg offer a beautiful view over the valley and with a little luck you can see the herd of konik horses grazing along the banks of the ditches. At the reception you can pick up a walking route of about 2 hours (6.5 km) through De Stille Kern.
